Ladies of Liberty

Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 6:00 p.m.
Lone Star Room
Frank Erwin Center

A reception and book-signing will follow in the Great Hall at the LBJ Library. The lecture will still be held in the Lone Star Room at the Frank Erwin Center.

Best-selling author, award-winning news correspondent, and long-time Johnson family friend Cokie Roberts will return to Austin on May 14 to delight the Friends with stories from her new book Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation. Cokie Roberts has covered Congress, politics, and public policy for the past fifteen years at ABC News. She also serves as Senior News Analyst for National Public Radio, where she was the congressional correspondent for more than ten years and won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award, among others.

In her third book, Founding Mothers, published in 2004, Cokie Roberts paid homage to the women who helped establish our nation. In Ladies of Liberty, she continues the story of more remarkable women and their achievements in moving our fledgling nation forward, including Dolley Madison, Abigail Adams, Theodosia Burr, and Sacajawea. Roberts reveals the often surprising and compelling stories of determined and passionate women who courageously faced the challenges of the times and laid the groundwork for a better society.

Copies of her book Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation will be available for sale at the Library. Ms. Roberts will be available to autograph copies of her book. As a reminder, Friends members receive a 15% discount on purchases made from the LBJ Museum Store. To purchase a copy in advance, please contact the LBJ Museum Store at (512) 232-2396.
