President Johnson began Sunday, February 18, 1968, aboard the aircraft carrier, USS CONSTELLATION, where he had spent the night. He had breakfast with 20 Marines stationed aboard the carrier, and then attended a church service on the hangar deck. Following the church service, Johnson attended a briefing in the Flag Mess. He addressed the troops and boarded a helicopter to go to Palm Desert, California, where he met with former President, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, and briefed him on Vietnam. After lunch with General Eisenhower, Johnson and Eisenhower played golf. That evening President Johnson returned to Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, aboard AIR FORCE ONE, arriving at the White House by helicopter at 1:30 a.m.
