The President began February 17, 1968, at the White House. In the afternoon he flew to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, for the start of a weekend tour of U. S. military establishments. At Fort Bragg he spoke to troops leaving for Vietnam. Johnson then visited injured troops at Womack Hospital. In the evening the President flew to El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, California, where he reviewed troops departing for Vietnam. He then boarded a helicopter to fly to the aircraft carrier, USS CONSTELLATION, where he spent the night.
