|The President's Daily Diary: April 11, 1967|
On April 11, 1967, the President traveled to Punta del Este, Uruguay, the birthplace of the Alliance for Progress, to attend a summit of Latin American Chiefs of State and discuss ways to strengthen the Alliance. On the first afternoon of the trip Johnson met individually with the Presidents of Colombia, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, and the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. He had dinner with leaders from Central America including the Presidents of Costa Rica, Honduras, and Guatemala; the President-elect of El Salvador; and the Foreign Minister of Nicaragua. In the evening he met with the President of Venezuela, although it is not recorded in the Diary.
