The President's Daily Diary: March 13, 1965

On March 13, 1965, President Johnson and Alabama Governor George Wallace met for several hours. Their discussion focused on whether or not Johnson would send in federal troops to protect the marchers in Selma, Alabama. In the afternoon Johnson held a press conference where he made a statement on the situation in Selma and answered questions about his meeting with Governor Wallace.
