On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, and Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn into office by Judge Sarah Hughes aboard Air Force One at Love Field in Dallas. Johnson became the thirty-sixth President of the United States. Although the Diary is brief, it lists Johnson's meetings and phone calls after returning to Washington, D. C., including his meeting with Congressional leaders. The Diary includes notes made by the President's secretary, Marie Fehmer, and notes dictated to her by Congressman Jack Brooks and Johnson aide, Clifton Carter.
