Status: Glossary of Terms

  • open: a folder is available to researchers. Contents within an opened folder may be withheld under three types of restrictions: those listed in the donor's deed of gift, those covered by statute, and those concerning national security. Folders containing restricted information will have a pink sheet at the front of the folder describing the documents that have been withheld.

  • unprocessed indicates that a folder has not been processed, that is, reviewed for restrictions, described and had preservation action completed. These folders are not currently available for research. Interested researchers should contact the archival staff to request processing.

  • empty means that the folder was empty when the collection was processed. No material was withdrawn because the folder was empty when it arrived in our custody.
